About Szeged

Szeged – the city of sunshine

Szeged is the county seat of Csongrád County and is located in the centre of the South Alföld (Southern Great Plain) Region, at the confluence of the Maros and Tisza rivers. It is the largest city in south-eastern Hungary, with approximately 160,000 inhabitants. Szeged is often referred to as the "city of sunshine" with over 2,100 sunny hours each year.

Szeged is a "Regional knowledge centre" due to the outstanding work of the University of Szeged and the Biological Research Centre.

Szeged offers a hive of activities and below are a few of the many things which a vistor can enjoy in the city.

Botanical Garden

Excursion to Ópusztaszer (29 km from Szeged), a  location featuring the National Heritage Park with sights such as a monastery, the Nomad Park and the Feszty Panorama.

 

Wellness and thermal baths

Hungary is the land of thermal spas, and thermal springs are abundant in the South Great Plain too. Szeged's two spas attract visitors from far and away: 

Aquapolis "Napfényfürdő" - The spa and open-air bath is located on the doorstep of Hunguest Hotel Szeged. It is open all year round and boasts numerous indoor and outdoor pools, slides and a wellness centre.

Anna Spa and Thermal Bath - Housed in a beautiful, listed building in the city centre, the spa and bath offers relaxation and personal care treatments.

 

 

Festivals

Just a few days before the start of ELISS 2024, Szeged Youth Festival (Szegedi Ifjúsági Napok, SZIN) will take place between 28 and 31 August, along the River Tisza in Szeged. First organized in 1968, SZIN is Hungary's longest running festival. More information and tickets are available on the website of SZIN.
