Lab Challenge

Lab Challenge will consist of five modules where participants will work in small teams to solve a series of challenges within a limited time. The tasks are designed to be engaging, linked to real-world problems, and easy to understand. The team with the best results will receive a prize, so it is worth giving your best effort together!

Optical Table:
Participants will become familiar with a typical optical table equipped with basic optics and optomechanics. They will learn essential skills such as the beam-walk method, building telescopes, and beam propagation. These skills will then be applied in Fourier optics spatial filtering to release an optical tiger from an optical cage.

X-ray Spectroscopy Module:
This module will demonstrate how to employ targeted X-ray radiation for detecting selected chemical elements. Participants will also have the opportunity to write their own software for aligning the setup by commanding linear motors.

Engineering Module:
In this module, participants will design and assemble a liquid sample delivery system from scratch, gaining hands-on engineering experience.

Spectroscopy Task:
Participants will work with a simple spectrograph station and, based on the available information, calculate its properties and light diffraction output.

Time to Play:
In this module, teams will solve several beam propagation challenges in the Laser Maze game and test their knowledge in a scientific quiz.
