Description
We study the effect of vacuum birefringence and diffraction in the head-on collision of an optical high-intensity pump and an X-ray probe, modelled as paraxial beams in various experimentally relevant configurations. We derive an analytic approximation. This is important for parameter studies and an optimization of the discernible signal value and the signal-to-noise ratio.
