Dynamically Assisted Tunnelling

Not scheduled
20m
Lecture

Description

Although tunnelling is usually taught in the first lecture course on quantum mechanics, our understanding is still far from complete -- especially in time-dependent scenarios.
We consider the enhancement (or suppression) of tunnelling through a potential barrier by an additional time-dependent electric field.
As a prominent example, we apply our findings to the enhancement of nuclear fusion by a x-ray free electron laser (XFEL) field.
