Description

One of the most important objectives of the PaNOSC project is to support the harmonization of PaN specific data policies and the management of Intellectual Property. In particular, considering that FAIR data principles more clearly define the concepts of Open Data, and the fact that current policies should be updated to better align with the current understanding of FAIR principles while respecting the specific needs of the PaN community.

A Data Policy is a management decision because as the data policy will be part of the governance documents of each Research Infrastructure. The main drivers and supporters of the Data Policy should include top management, senior researchers but, for its implementation they will need to be supported by IT experts, scientists and, most important, data managers. (https://www.panosc.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/PaNOSC-D2.3-FINAL.pdf)

At this moment, as the FAIR Data Policy Framework and Guidelines have been published, all PaNOSC partners are actively working on updating their Data Policies or adopting a FAIR Data Policy and, at the same time as a next and natural step, the partners are starting to prepare the implementation for which, one of the most important topics is training and preparing the users and staff. As a first step, a series of workshops and meetings, dedicated to scientific data management and publishing practices has been started, presenting the technical challenges and and identifying best practices in data stewardship will be shared with other laboratories at least within the PaN community.

The FAIR Research Data Management. Data Stewardship Challenge aims at collecting the FAIR Data Policy implementation details and challenges, focusing on the necessary training identified as needed by the PaNOSC members for preparing the users and staff for FAIR experiments.
